Co svítí v pokoji, když zhasnete
Pak se podívejte, co zbylo.
Možná se ptáte: zbylo něco? Vždyť je tma.
🔴 Zkuste to.
Nic. Nejdřív jen vidět.
🌙 Pro souvislost, kdyby vás zajímala míra. Studie na více než jedenácti tisících lidí z britské databáze UK Biobank sledovala světlo nad tři luxy v nočních hodinách a našla souvislost s o něco silnější stěnou levé srdeční komory. Tři luxy jsou nejméně desetkrát víc než nejjasnější úplněk. Studie ukazuje souvislost, ne příčinu, a já s ní nechci strašit. Beru ji jako pozvání k pohledu, ne jako varování.
Zakrýt diodu můžete potom. Nebo nikdy.
🕊️ Zbývá ticho mezi vámi a pokojem. V něm nemusíte nic dělat, stačí vědět, co svítí.
Co jste našli ve svém pokoji, když jste dnes večer zhasli?

What Still Glows in the Room When You Switch Off the Light
🌑 Switch it off. Wait until your eyes adjust.
Then look at what is left.
You might ask: is anything left? It is dark.
🔴 Try it. You will probably find a small LED that quietly breathes. A strip of light under the door. A display that wakes up now and then on its own. The room you switched off never really went off.
You might ask: what is that good for? It is not about sleep or health. It is about observing.
The observer fixes nothing. All the observer does is see that the room once taken for dark is full of small lights nobody noticed for a long time. And then, perhaps, a gentler question comes: what in me is still lit, even though it is already evening?
You might ask: and what do I do about it? Nothing. First, just see.
🌙 For context, in case the measure interests you. A study of more than eleven thousand people from the British database UK Biobank tracked light above three lux during night hours and found a link with a slightly thicker wall of the left ventricle. Three lux is at least ten times brighter than the brightest full moon. The study shows a link, not a cause, and I do not want to frighten anyone with it. I take it as an invitation to look, not as a warning.
You can cover the LED later. Or never.
🕊️ What remains is the quiet between you and the room. You do not have to do anything in it. It is enough to know what is glowing.
What did you find in your room when you switched off the light tonight?
